The Role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Real Estate Attorney to lead residential and commercial transactions within our growing Flushing practice. This role requires a legal professional who can manage a high volume of closings while providing sophisticated counsel to a diverse clientele. The ideal candidate must be able to bridge New York property law with the specific needs of our Chinese-speaking clients, ensuring a seamless and culturally competent experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Legal Counsel & Strategy: Represent buyers, sellers, and lenders in all phases of real estate transactions, from initial contract negotiation to closing.
- Complex Drafting: Draft and negotiate purchase and sale agreements, commercial leases, riders, and complex financing documents.
- Title Oversight: Review title reports and surveys; provide legal solutions for complex clouds on title, including easements, encroachments, and estate-related issues.
- ACRIS & Regulatory Compliance: Supervise the preparation of NYC-specific filings (ACRIS, TP-584, IT-2663) and ensure compliance with FIRPTA and 1031 Exchange requirements.
- Bilingual Advocacy: Conduct legal consultations and closings in Mandarin and/or Cantonese, ensuring clients fully understand their legal obligations and risks.
- Escrow Management: Oversee attorney escrow accounts, ensuring the ethical and accurate disbursement of funds in accordance with NYS IOLA rules.
- Mentorship: Supervise and provide direction to real estate paralegals and support staff.
- Legal Credentials: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in New York State.
- Language Mastery: Professional fluency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese is required. Candidate must be comfortable explaining complex legal concepts in-language.
- Experience: 3–7 years of focused experience in New York real estate law (Residential & Commercial).
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Flushing real estate market, including new construction condos, mixed-use properties, and Co-op board dynamics.
- Communication: Exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to maintain strong relationships with local brokers, lenders, and opposing counsel.
