Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing laboratory tests and analyses to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. This role involves processing and analyzing biological specimens, maintaining lab equipment, and ensuring test accuracy while adhering to strict safety and quality control standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, prepare, and analyze biological samples, including blood, urine, tissue, and other bodily fluids.
  • Perform routine and complex tests in hematology, microbiology, chemistry, immunology, and serology.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments such as spectrophotometers, centrifuges, automated analyzers, and microscopes.
  • Conduct quality control tests to ensure the accuracy and reliability of results.
  • Record and report test findings to physicians and healthcare providers in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Follow established laboratory protocols, biosafety regulations (OSHA, CLIA, CAP), and infection control procedures.
  • Assist in laboratory research, data collection, and development of new testing procedures.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in laboratory science, diagnostic techniques, and emerging medical technologies.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or a related field.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in clinical laboratory procedures, testing methodologies, and specimen handling.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory information systems (LIS), safety regulations, and quality assurance protocols.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced medical environment.
